Preliminary Schedule:
9:30 AM - Arrival & Welcome: Begin your day with a warm welcome and a refreshing cup of tea or coffee in the charming ambiance of our Glasshouses.
10:00 am - Crafting Begins: Gather in Glasshouse 1 at our trestle tables, where Katie Warner will guide you through the art of weaving using sustainable UK-grown willow. Learn to weave a tension tray, a skill that blends tradition with creativity.
12:00 pm - Garden Exploration: Take a break from crafting and join Head Gardener at HBF Toby Loveday and Jess for a leisurely stroll through our Walled Garden. Learn about the fresh produce that we grow on-site and maybe even take some gardening tips home with you.
1:00 pm - Lunch: Indulge in a delicious lunch served in the inviting dining area of the Glasshouses. Savor seasonal flavors expertly prepared by Jess Elliott Dennison, using ingredients sourced from our gardens.
2:00 pm - Weaving Continues: Return to your weaving projects with renewed energy and inspiration. Under Katie's guidance, continue to explore the intricate art of basket weaving.
3:00 pm - Free Time & Conversation: Enjoy some free time to wander through the gardens, chat with Jess and Katie, or simply relax and soak in the summer day. Jess and Katie will also have some favourite items available to purchase on the day.
4:00 pm - Departure: Head home with happy hearts, your finished creation, and cherished memories.
About the Workshop Leaders
Katie Warner - Based in Edinburgh, Katie's work as a basketweaver combines contemporary design with traditional skills. All her baskets are handcrafted using willow grown in the UK, sometimes incorporating other natural materials such as windfallen branches for basket handles or locally grown dogwood for an extra splash of colour. Jess Elliott Dennison -Jess is a food writer and the founder of Elliott’s; a community that celebrates simple cooking and life in the kitchen. She has written 3 cookbooks: Salad Feasts, Tin Can Magic, and Lazy Baking. In June 2023, Jess sold her Elliott’s Cafe which is listed on Conde Nast’s Best Edinburgh Restaurant List.
