Experienced Silversmithing Residency - January 2025

We are looking for an experienced silversmith (8+ years experience/postgraduation) to join us in the month of January for a fully-funded silversmithing residency.

Applicants will be given access to the workshop with their own bench, accommodation onsite, and a weekly stipend of £350. This residency will also include an option to provide up to four days of teaching with the current silversmith tenants. The teaching will be paid at our usual artist day rate of £279.

During their time with us, the visiting resident will also be joining the community of emerging silversmiths who are supported by The Marchmont Silversmithing workshop as well as other makers and creators on-site.

The residency will take place from Monday 6 January 2025 to Wednesday 29 January 2025.

Useful Info:

Our campus on Marchmont Estate is situated in a rural area with very little public transport. A car is recommended during your stay but is not essential.

All bed linens and towels are provided

Accommodation is fully self catering.

Groceries can be delivered to the Estate by supermarkets in Berwick Upon Tweed

We always strive to make sure every resident that comes to the Hugo Burge Foundation feels welcome and supported. However, we recognise that a residency can feel overwhelming, especially for those who may be unfamiliar with spending time in rural locations. With that in mind, we encourage open conversations at any stage of the process—before, during, or after applying—so we can discuss what to expect and the support available. If you'd like to talk, feel free to reach out to emma@hugoburgefoundation.org.

If you know of someone who would be suitable for this opportunity, please share this page with them. Or you may post this page on social media, using the buttons below, thank you.

Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop

In 2023 we opened a state-of-the-art silversmithing workshop on our Marchmont campus supported by a generous donation of tools, machinery and books by the late Master silversmith Graham Stewart. The workshop supports three early career silversmiths to launch their businesses over a two-year tenancy, with guidance from an experienced mentor. The workshop also provides shorter residencies for British and international silversmiths to develop new work and participate in cultural exchange.
