Based in a former garage in the small town of Greenlaw, a few miles from the HBF campus, Redbraes is a community pottery studio and creative clay space, specializing in wheel throwing courses and ceramic workshops. The studio is run by Josephine Broome and supports potters at all stages, from first-time makers to emerging potters looking for a dedicated space to develop their practice.
Redbraes offers a variety of classes and workshops throughout the year:
1-2-1 Three Hour Wheel Throwing Session - £110
Clay Foundations 6 Week Course - The Clay Foundations 6 week wheel Course is a weekly 6 session evening pottery course suitable for total beginners and those who have just begun their pottery journey. Over 6 weeks, you will be introduced to the core techniques of wheel throwing, trimming, decorating and glazing pottery. You will learn how to prepare clay, center, and throw: bowls, cylinders and more challenging shapes. You will learn to finish and trim your pieces, add handles and applied elements, before personalising your pottery with surface decoration, colour and glazes. At the end of this course, you will have a strong foundational understanding of how to use the wheel and make a pot from concept to completion.

Redbraes community membership scheme offers access to the pottery studio to anyone looking for a dedicated space to independently develop their personal practice. With 3 potters wheels, handbuilding facilities and dedicated support hours, the membership is designed to facilitate potters at any stage of their journey with clay.
- Pay as you Go membership starts from just £7 an hour.
- Full Studio memberships from £75 a month.
